Employers Gather at the Central Fort Bend Chamber October Working Lunch Series to Learn About Employment Law

Central Fort Bend Chamber hosted its Working Lunch Series on Employment Law at Fort Bend Country Club, October 20, bringing 24 local business owners and employers together to learn about important laws, regulations and amendments in the constantly evolving area of wage and hour laws.

Melissa G. Martin of Garcia-Martin & Martin, P. C. presented topics focused on how to determine whether employees are truly exempt; when workers are employees vs. independent contractors; how to ensure required records are kept according to the Fair Labor Standards Act; and important considerations and best practices when hiring employees. The presentation was followed with Q&A to address specific circumstances.

Rob Halvorsen, VP of Sales, with Presenting Sponsor Solid Business Solutions spoke on the company’s full-service solutions that provide businesses with efficient human resources, payroll management, benefits administration and workers compensation services.
